Essilor of America is launching a “new and improved” version of its Crizal Alizé anti-reflective lenses, according to the company. The upgraded product, which offers better cleanability, is a full product replacement for the previous generation of Crizal Alizé lenses, which was discontinued on Jan. 12.

Crizal Alizé lenses set the standard for cleanability in no-glare lenses, going above and beyond with a new and improved lens that is unmatched in its cleanability.

Early Signs Of Glaucoma May Be Detected In The Brain.

HealthDay (3/3, Preidt) reported that, according to a study published online “early signs of glaucoma can be detected in the brain.” Working with laboratory animals, researchers from the Vanderbilt Eye Institute “found that a very early mechanism of glaucoma-related vision loss involves deterioration of communication between the optic nerve and the mid-brain, which handles information about sensory input such as sound, heat, cold, pain and pressure.” After a while, “the optic nerve, then the retina, show signs of degeneration,” a study author explained.

The lightest eyewear in the world went into orbit again, this time onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, which completed its mission Monday, February 22 and landed safely at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The crew left Cape Canaveral February 8 for the International Space Station, where they stayed for about 2 weeks.

This year is the tenth anniversary of Silhouette’s collaboration with NASA and with the STS-130 mission it will be celebrating its 29th journey to outer-space!

Old Cosmetics May Be Breeding Ground For Bacteria.

The UK’s Daily Mail (2/25) reports that the majority of “women are unaware of how their make-up bags can be a breeding ground for bacteria” that can “be transferred on to the face and cause irritation or even infection.” For example, “old mascara wands can breed bacteria that lead to conjunctivitis” and “should not be used six months after opening,” while “dirty brushes are a breeding ground for micro-organisms that can cause herpes, ringworm, and impetigo.”
