Early detection of these eye diseases is imperative for sustaining eye health and your overall well-being.

The data we gather during preliminary testing and Dr. Minnick's guidance will put you at ease knowing your prescription will give you clear, comfortable vision.
Dr. Minnick takes the time to go over your health history and address all health and eye related concerns. After determining your prescription the doctor will perform a few more tests to check the visual pathway. Checking for strabismus or an eye turn, a field of vision screening checking peripheral vision, motility evaluation to make sure eyes move together as a team, and pupil constriction testing to make sure pupils respond to light. The doctor will exam your eyes using slit-lamp biomicroscopy that provides the examiner with a three dimensional view of the eye. This instrument allows the doctor to check external structures, assess dry eyes and allergies, and using a magnifying lens check the internal aspect of the eye. It gives your optometrist a closer look at the different structures at the front of the eye and inside the eye. It’s a key tool in determining the health of your eyes and detecting eye disease. Sometimes there is no substiute for a Dilated eye exam - this procedure is where the optometrist assesses the eyes to find vision problems and eye diseases. Dilation drops are dropped in the eyes to dilate (or widen) the pupils in order to get a larger viewing angle of the retina. The retina is the part of your eye that captures the image of what you are viewing, similar to film in a camera. It also allows the doctor to assess the optic nerve. Conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, as well as other health problems including diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected with a thorough examination of the retina.
If over 40, or early warnings signs are present, it is recommended to check for glaucoma, because aging increases the chances of developing glaucoma. Glaucoma has no prior symptom and normally noticed only after some sight has already been affected.Glaucoma examination involves; assessing the inside of the eye, measuring inside pressure of the eye, and checking the visual fields to make ensure there are no abnormal blind spots. If the patient is suspected to be at risk, retinal photography of the interior and exterior of the eye will taken.
